Hi Brenton,

looks like you haven't set up a graphical environment or it isn't working.

Can you provide information on how you have installed the system, has graphical user interface been loaded automatically, did you remove some packages before it stopped working and which Ubuntu version you are using (if you don't know, you can type "lsb_release -a" on the command line.

The command "startx" should run up the graphical user interface if it's working. Can you also try this and tell what happens.

I am using Ubunto 8.10. After booting from the live cd, i poked around for a bit before deciding to install from inside the live install. I did a total install, overwriting the Windows partitions. Everything went smoothly, i have the dell page, it then says GNUB loading, I get an Ubunto loading screen, and then:

Boot from (hd0,0) ext3 a6bb63c5-f083-4b54-4b54-b39d-99c131aa9380

No, you are typing your password correctly. Seems like you don't have any display drivers so it's obvious you don't have graphical environment.

Is this a clean install or did you remove some packages before your installation is broken.?

Can you help with this problem?
