Failure in writing DVDs

Asked by passionguy

I m using Gutsy. I m able 2 write cds but i m not able 2 write dvds using Brasero Disc Burning Application. I have a Samsung dvd writer. I actually tried writing with rewritable cds & dvds. I dun understand why there is a failure in writing dvds. This is the error log generated.

I also tried GnomeBaker & got the following error:

I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings)
/dev/hdc: "Current Write Speed" is 2.0x1352KBps.

This looks like bug 15424. I'm sorry that there's no obvious fix for it, but you might want to see if there's any information in that (very long!) bug thread that might be of use to you.

I checked the bug link & it says not possible 2 write dvd-rw type but it can write dvd+rw type. I actually tried with dvd-rw & i m going 2 try dvd+rw. Hope this works fine.....

I thought it can work in the Hardy or Intrepid but it does not. I dont know when Ubuntu will fix this

Thanks 4 ur help.....

I'm also having DVD write problems. I'm actually using a DVD+RW disk in a portable LG USB DVD writer.

I've tried Brasero, Gnomebaker and K3b (last seems the most promising). Here's what happens in K3b if I try to simulate a write:

All this is so I can try and create a boot&duke disk for another Windows machine which seems to be irretrievably infected with some kind of trojan deep within the system.

Thanks and regards for any help.
