Ubuntu is free for every one.
Thus it maybe a bug but not because of being downloaded too much.
Can you see the boot loader (grub or lilo ...) start up when you start your computer?

I assume you have grub installed:
One way to figure out if the grub is up is to keep hitting your "Esc" key after your bios begin to load your system.

If you can see anything, your need a live CD or rescue disk to save your system; with a live CD or rescue disk, you can reinstall another grub.

If you have the grub, you can choose one item which corresponds to one system you have on your PC.
The default item may not work, but try the recover one if your have.
In non of them works, you need a live CD to replace your kernel with another one.

Whatever, your need a live CD, which can be downloaded on ubuntu's home page, to rescue or to back up your stuff.

P.S.: a live CD is a CD which allows you to boot up and run a system without install it.

Sorry that one thing I missed.
There is a tool named "grub4dos"; it's a bootloader.
You can install it if you don't have a bootloader

Can you help with this problem?
