Keyboard Layouts

Asked by Sebastian Geiger

I want to be able to write chinese characters with Ubuntu, yet i can not find the chinese Keyboard layout. I tried the following steps yet:

System -> Administration -> Language Support -> I ticked Chinese
System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> I searched for chinese but couldnt find it.

What i would like is to be able to write both english and simplified chinese.
Is there a way to conveniently switch between different keyboard layouts? Like its possible on windows? (I mean the small language icon beside the clock in windows)

Best Regards
Lanoxx

Hi, I don't know how to solve your problem with Chinese, but I can assure your it's possible (and easy) to switch between keyboard layouts. You can add to the panel the "Keyboard indicator"

I don't speak Chinese at all, therefore I've never used a Chinese keyboard... but I hope this page will help you: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/InputMethods/SCIM/Setup
