Hybrid Desktop on kubuntu 8.10

how do i fix a hybrid desktop? im using kubuntu intrepid with kde 4.1
im using kde but my desktop is gnome. how do i take the gnome out?

yes. someone from IRC told me to remove all gnome so i tried what he said

dpkg --purge $(COLUMNS=200 dpkg -l | awk '/^i.*gnome/ {print$2}')

but most of the times i open a file it opens on nautilus.
