Issue with Nvidia graphics

Asked by Justin Tidwell

Hello,

Im using 2 Nvidia 8600GT cards, 256mbs on SLI.

When I do a fresh install with ubuntu, everything works fine. Once I get the internet and such setup it tells me the recommended video card driver needs to be updated... I have done this twice now and both times it restarts and just comes up to a promt instead of booting to the gui... Im a Noob to linux and this is all new to me so its really tripping me up with all this command stuff. This seems to be my only problem.

How do I get this fixed where I can run the proper video drivers and easily?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Justin Tidwell

Try installing envyng-gtk if your desktop is gnome or envyng-qt if is kde.

Then go to Applications>System tools>Envy ...

It's a good option.

Cheers

First, check you have a sources.list (/etc/apt/sources.list) like this:
http://www.vcubells.net/fitxers/sources_intrepid.txt

If not, edit your sources and modify:

$ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

$ sudo aptitude update

$ sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

And then install envyng-gtk

$ sudo aptitude install envyng-gtk

Can you help with this problem?
