Quiet kernel options

Asked by Sheol

Is there any way to make kernel updates default without the quiet option? I find it rather frustrating to have to change this every time I do a kernel upgrade.
For that matter I don't understand why it is the default option. Are we worried that it is going to intimidate people?
It seems that people new to linux it is especially important that they can see where a crash happens on boot-up, so that they can give a more informed bug report.
Any thoughts?

yes, there is a line in /boot/grub/menu.lst that looks like

defoptions=quiet

try removing that line that should stop it from making new kernels quiet in the future
