default sound settings

how to I restore the default gnome sound settings using the terminal interface. The only time i ever have sound is at startup (although it is now playing a deck of cards shuffling instead of the african sounding music). Sound Preferences interface keeps freezing up when I make changes.

I was able to fix the problem with guidance from
ubuntu.com/support/community docs section. Please close both my sound
questions. Thanks for the help!!! Big thumbs up to the community and the
launchpad folks!!! Y'all kick m-softs yoou know what!!!!!!!!!!
