Ubuntu ISO CD image will not boot

Asked by France Parijs

Hi,

I would like to install a dual-boot configuration Ubuntu-Vista on my laptop.

- have previously shrinked primary partition drive C:\
- an unallocated space of 10.92 GB has been made free
- have burnt a CD with an Ubuntu 8.10 ISO image
- CD seems to be ok - one can see the Ubuntu files burnt on the CD
- boot order on laptop is first CD/DVD driver
- booted pc but the screen remains black. We hear noises as though the computer is trying to boot from the CD but is not successful.
- after a while Vista boots normally.

Could somebody perhaps help me? Thanks a lot.

Cheers.

I would recommend checking the md5sum of the ISO that you downloaded.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Here is a guide and burning the ISO

It is alway good to run the CD Intergrity check.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

Here are some common problems when trying to boot from the CD

If you still have problem you may need to use some F6 boot parameters/options

Hope this helps
