Window list size question

I have just removed Compiz and added a new panel trying to get back to the default desktop in Ubuntu 8.04.
I added Window List in order to have access to open windows in the panel, but it seems that all open windows have to share a tiny segment of the panel, so that when I open a lot of windows it's impossible to see what's what unless I hold the cursor over the tiny fields. How can I resize the window list field in the panel so that the whole panel is used when showing windows?

is the window list next to anything? to the left of it you should see a little handle (series of dots), you can grab that and drag it around to give it more space
