I Installed MS Office In Ubuntu, But It Installed All Apps, NOT Some

Asked by taurus

Hi, guys! During installation of MS Office 2003 in ubuntu 8.04, a window popped up giving me an option to install only the programs I wanted like, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc. I only chose Word and Excel. However, when the installation ended, I ended up with ALL of the apps of Office. I tried to uninstall the uneeded apps without success. How do I uninstall the uneeded apps?

.

This question is related to the installer delivered by Microsoft for there product Office. This is not related to Ubuntu or Linux.

First off, this is a question that I'm sure others on the net can answer. Second of all, this is NOT an MS installer issue. It's a Wine issue because MS Office rests upon Wine for installation in ubuntu. Lastly, because of the aforementioned, MS will not answer this question.

Office is written for Windows, and the system requirements say it requires Windows. So they are under no obligation to provide any sort of support for people trying to install it on Linux using WINE.

Taurus, see the WINE page at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3214&iTestingId=30870 which more or less says that Office is a bit ropey in Ubuntu 8.04, although it doesn't specifically mention your problem. I don't know that there's any easy way to solve it, but I'd recommend you try upgrading to the latest stable version of WINE to see if it's already been solved: http://www.winehq.org/site/download
