Heya! :)

If you really are unable to boot from the DVD and you know, that it should be at least readable, try the Smart Boot Manager. Its aware of your CD-Drive and can enable you to boot from strange media like CD-ROM or DVD (even on old computers).

More information may be found here:

   http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/about.html

Download may be here:

   http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/download.html

The only requirements are: x86 machine (what i guess from you, bugging around with win98) and a floppy drive (which is, i know, not that common these days).
You may even geht the SBM boot itself from CD and then load the Ubuntu DVD by SBM if your BIOS misses to boot it.

Have a nice day and dont let your computer get you down. :)

First of all, sorry for my undetailed information...

in a few hours, if i got some sleep, I will try to find a way to make you able to boot from that DVD... from your note i read, that you have a floppy drive as well as a working floppy handy. Which platform ist currently installed on your PC? Win98? Some Linux Distribution? If you do not answer in time, i'll just prepare both ways :).

Sorry again *bow*.

          Greetings, Joel

I really appreciate your help thank you.
I would really like to partition the drive and load the linux and xp on all my pc's
I can read about partitions and follow instructions ok but the book has no instructions on how to get the darn disc to load
the book says drop the disc in the tray boot up and follow the steps

thank you very much

I tried that (trying to load from the disc I bought) and got no where.
So I decided to try my mantra "When all else fails start at step 1."

1 I downloaded the same version 6.06.
2 Saved the file.
3 Burned it to a disc using DVDDecripter.
4 Booted using my new disc.

A few clicks. No problems. Ubuntu is sweet!!!!

Just knowing someone was out there thinking about me was enough positive
energy to encourage me to keep going forward. Really. Thank you.

If I may, I have a question.
On my daughters pc I can boot in either ubuntu or windows 98
On my pc I can not boot in windows something got messed up when ubuntu
loaded.
I have poked around (in ubuntu) and I can see the files but can't open
them.
Do you know how to get them from the other side and copy them to my
folder in ubuntu?
