network installation

how can i install a small LAN between 2 PC (hardy heron and damn small linux). i have tried the tutorial in documentation of ubuntu website but it doesnt work ... igot lucky coz i have backed up (/etc/network/interfaces) file configuration....please any help

You will need crossover ethernet cable (or ordinary ethernet cable, and at least one computer that supports automatic crossover). You would then need to set up one server to act as a DHCP server for the other.

thankx Thomas K for ur reply ....i have this ethernet cable RJ45 ...but i dont know how to set DHCP server ...i know on damn small linux there no configuration to do ...just enable the DHCP client on the ethernet card...i need more help please.

"sudo aptitude install dhcp3-server" (on the Ubuntu box, this is).

I'm guessing this will start itself up automatically....
