in my desktop computer, there is a place called COMPUTER .it`s similar to window`s MY COMPUTER..when ever i enter it and open a hard disk partion(drives in windows context),the icons gets displayed in the desktop.....can i stop it..

Am I correct in assuming you want to disable the functionality that makes all drives that are mounted, appear on the desktop?

If so, run the following command in the terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal)

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible False
