cannot delete unbuntu folder from windows

Asked by Nels

long story short: have to reinstall unbuntu and am trying to free up space on drive. prior installation created a 9GB ubuntu folder on drive that i can see in windows. it contains folder "disks" which contains one file, a corrupted root.disk file. when i attempt to delete it in windows it says it cant because file is corrupted. also unable to delete it in dos command line or in safe mode. have run chkdsk in dos and it says it deletes an error and completes what seem to be 2 of the 3 steps but then says it can't complete chkdsk in read-only mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated this file is holding up my reinstall and i am anxious to get back to ubuntu and now even more mad at windows

FYI: i have a 40GB NTFS drive with windows xp

is there an uninstaller on the ubuntu disk i made from the iso?

Booting in Windows force an a complete hard disk check.
At reboot Windows must perform the hard-disk check.
Then reboot again in Windows and make a clean shutdown.
Be sure to boot in Windows twice and to get a clear Windows shutdown.

...is there an uninstaller on the ubuntu disk i made from the iso?...
i don't know, but running an uninstaller on a damaged partition file don't works well for sure.

You must solve this partition errors using standard Windows methods.

Don't try to install Ubuntu in dual mode Ubuntu+Windows if your NTFS partition is in error state.

Hope this helps
