install of ubuntu fails

i am trying to install ubuntu on my toshiba laptop from a disk i got via the mail. In the text based installer, the installation fails at the select and install software. I have a 3.2 gHz intel pentium 4 processor, ati radon chipset.What's going on?

when i trying to install ubuntu 8.04 LTS ... this error came out
" this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected ani686CPU.
unable to boot - please use a kernel approriate for your CPU " ..

my computer spec. RAM - 320Mb so maybe u can help me to install it...

hi yazid76,
you tried to install the ubuntu version that works on 64 bit but your CPU "allows" only 32 bit. You need the 32 bit version of Ubuntu. Its labeld x86.

the 32bit version is labeld as x86.
go to http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

"Which release do you want?"
chose the desktop version

"What type of computer do you have?"
 chose Standard personal computer (x86 architecture, PentiumTM, CeleronTM, AthlonTM, SempronTM)
