Raid and ubuntu 8.10 install/live cd use

Asked by fuzz

Hi I tried the 8.10 livecd just to see if there was any obstacles with my system.

According to http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/intrepid/alpha-3/ the alternate install cd should be used when "LVM and/or RAID partitioning;". Since I already have my software raid-1 I make the logic conclusion: it is not necessary with the alternate install cd in my case since I don't need any partitioning.

When i tried the live cd it couldn't see my raid (/proc/mdstat didn't exists). Is this intended? I think that either it should at least provide the ability to read and write on software raids or the documentation should be changed. Of course I would prefer if it could read/write software raids, since I would be able to use my files to test alpha and beta versions of Ubuntu 8.10. It also makes it possible to use the live cd to restore backups.

if you manually load the raid kernel modules I think mdadm is on the cd, so you should be able to start the meta devices with mdadm.

Just make sure the kernel modules are loaded.

Can you help with this problem?
