Have an HP Pavillion dv9644CA notebook computer that came with Vista. Having lots of problems with Vista & Microsoft mail so I considered going back to XP Pro. HP told me that they only have drivers for this model that work with Vista so the machine would not work properly with XP Pro.

Will the machine work properly with Ubuntu?

You can try running the live CD, see if everything works. You can also look here:

Honestly, I'm not convinced it will not work with XP. You can try checking the manufacturer's page of each component you need a driver for, and you'll probably find an XP driver.
