problem with webbook and wireless/ubuntu setting

I have a webbook with Linux [am new to this OS] try to connect with my Airport Extreme box, when following instruction Ubuntu Help Centre= system=administration= cant find In the Taskbar click the Network Manager icon?, as a result cannot go further to set up wireless.

Have also dowloaded the new version 8.04, have a icon on desktop ubuntu 8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso ?
see no change in the administration folder

The 8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso is an image of the latest Ubuntu LiveCD. Even if you installed an earlier version of Hardy, you are currently running the newest, if you have updated.

As for the wireless, navigate to "System > Administration > Network" or run 'gksu network-admin' from the shell.
If you can't figure it out, post the output of 'sudo lshw -C network' and 'iwconfig'.
