username and password

Asked by Mike A

I am new to ubuntu and just installed 8.04 LTS. I get as far as the login screen that asks for username and password. I have tried some of the suggestions such as using "user" for the username and password, no luck also tried using unbuntu for the username and <enter> for password, no luck there either. I would love to try Ubuntu if I could just get into it. HELP!

You were prompted for a username and password during installation - these are the values you enter at login.

Did you install Ubuntu from the Ubuntu installation disk?
YES: You were prompted a user name and password during the installation procedure.

If you installed Ubuntu using VMWare or another similar virtual machine pre-made installation image a password and user name should be in the documentation.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Mike A for more information if necessary.
