start up error

I have Ubuntu 8.04
and when I start up my computer it says

Routine check of drives /dev/sda1

then it says

cheking drive /dev/sda1: 27%(stage 1/5 58/147)

/dev/sda1: UNEPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
 (l.e., without -a or -p options)
fsck died with exit status 4
cheching drive /dev/sda: 30% (stage 1/5,63/147)
[fail]
* An automatic file system check (fsck) of the root filesyststem failed.
A manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted.

from the root terminal run:

fsck /dev/sda1

Solved mine too :D Thank you so much :):)

Here's what I did: wrote in 'fsck /dev/sda1' in the terminal then it came a lot of errors and i just clicked 'Y' (for Yes) every time. At last, when it's done, just write 'exit'.

It will take a while but it does it :S
