That you are in the BusyBox console means that Ubuntu doesn't even start up half-way. It is something like a rescue console if the system is broken.
You surely selected the right boot option in the Grub screen?
Can you see any error messages before the console appears?

Fixing it would require some expertise of the nitty gritty of Linux. With this I'm saying that you can often repair a broken system if you know it in and out, but if you don’t a fresh reinstall is likely the best solution.

What you can try before you reinstall is to put in the Live CD and look around. Maybe try grub-install (use google for how to do it), or make an "aptitude dist-upgrade" in a chroot of the hard disk (but this too is perhaps to much for your current experience).

What you should certainly do when you have booted the Live CD and before you reinstall is to copy all your valuable files to a backup. Then you can copy them back later.

Sorry I can't help more, you didn’t give enough clues about the source of the problem.
