Add package to Ubuntu distribution

Hello,

there is a backup software called areca (http://areca.sf.net). I create the ubuntu packages for it and send them to the project leader. He adds it in Sourceforge for others to download.
Is it possible to get my package directly in Ubuntu? So that users only have to start synaptic, search "areca" and install it?
Do I have to register a project here in Launchpad?

Hi,

there are several Ways to do.

1. Upload the Package to your own PPA on launchpad.net so everyone can download it from your own Repository

2. Contact one of the MOTUs (Masters of the Universe). They can check your Package and Upload to the Ubuntu-Repos:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Contact?highlight=(CategoryMOTU\b)

Nope, it has no connection with launchpad. It has to do something with official repositories (place, where the packages are). If you want to be reachable in synaptic, there is only one way to go. Start your own repository and write somewhere on the net, where is the repository (URI). It needs some knowledge about repositories (that i don't really have), but it is easy to google...

But anyway. If people know what to find, they will find it (or ask someone to find it). So maybe is the repository way just unnecessary.

Or, if it is really good, you can fight to get into official repositories.
