does Ubuntu support dual monitor drivers for a 'Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead' Graphics card?

I am thinking of joining the Linux world through Ubuntu, but I have become very attached to my dual monitors. So i need to know, will Linux/Ubuntu run my 'Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead' graphics card in my spacious 2 monitor - 2048x768 res, or will i have to pack u my 2nd monitor and go back to the horrible/squishy single monitor 1024x786 desktop?

Heya,

Good news - DualHead works great in Linux, although it takes some low level tinkering to get it set up. I don't personally have a G450, but I've successfully set up dual and triple monitors with other cards.

A bit of searching around found evidence that others have been successful in doing this with a G450:

You can find a lot of info about this by searching Google for "Matrox G450 Ubuntu Xinerama".

"Xinerama" is what the Dualhead mode is called in Linux (actually it's more flexible than just DualHead).

Thanks - I see now that Matrox seems to support linux with drivers - but i also noticed that BIOS update program for the card were only available and usable under 'MS Windows???? - how odd . So i think i have a good chance of it working well (now that i have updated the bios under windows) Thanks for the advice. I have to travel, for work, for a few weeks. so this will give me a chance to think about the move to linux. (which is more likely now, )
