grub boot loader

hi when i installed my 2nd hDD with ubuntu on it the grub loder was set up with just the options of ubuntu and windows ...aftr some time i found there were two options for ubuntu which increased to three now now i have 5 options for ubuntu at start up ...pl advise as why this is happening and what is the fix...am a total fresher to linux.

Every time there's an update to the linux Kernel (the "core" of the operating System), you retain the old kernel as a boot option.

To remove it, simply run Synaptic (System menu, Administration) and search for "linux-image".
There will be a few there that are checked. If you uncheck them, they get removed along with your startup boot options.

Example "linux-image-2.6.24-17-generic"
