Terminal command line ignorance

Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? These are the instructions that came with the software Thanks

That looks like you have downloaded the flash installer from the adobe website. You are probably better off not doing that, but instead installing the Ubuntu-supplied package instead. The following page details how to install Flash "the ubuntu way":-

In short enable the extra "multiverse" repository and look for a package called flashplayer-nonfree using synaptic package manager.

If you want the latest version of non free FlashPlayer plugin (v. 9) yuo can enable the "backports" repos. The instructions to do that are in the second guide that Alan Pope linked.
