after upgrade battery life is shorter

Asked by ngodfather114

I have a new inspiron 1420 from Dell with ubuntu 7.10 pre-loaded. Since I've had it (about a month and a half) I've upgraded my ubuntu to 8.04. Now with 7.10 my battery life was estimated at 2 hours and 35 min. But now with 8.04 it's only 30 min. My question is why? Does the new ubuntu shorten battery life? And if so what do I do? I really don't want to have to change back. please help. Thanks in advance.

The actual battery life will not be different.
How long does a full battery actually take to discharge.

In other words, which of the two is more accurate? 2.5 hours or 0.5?

It's possible the calibration is better under 8.04?

I'm not to sure Tony. The battery life on this laptop according to Dell is suppose to discharge in a few hours. So 2.5 does seems more accurate. I checked the system today and it now says 40 min. SO is this thing going to flip a coin every day or can it give me an accurate reading. 7.10 was accurate. 8.04 is giving me estimates and they're way off. What other info do you need to help. Thanks for any help you can give.

Apparently this is a known problem so ignore it for now until it gets rectified in an update for 8.04.
