Ubuntu 8.04 startup question
Hi, all
I'm new to Linux and was born a noob, so bear with me.
I installed Ubuntu 8.04LTS (32bit) on my sister's laptop using WUBI. It runs great and all hardware was detected (after updates), but the startup/boot time takes around 45 seconds. That's slower than Vista. It's pretty responsive after boot-up, though. I've disabled all the unneeded startup functions in the 'sessions' and 'services' menus (bluetooth, print applet....etc).
The laptop is an Acer Aspire (4715Z) with Pentium dual-core T2390 1.86GHz, 1gb RAM and Intel built in Graphics.
It takes around 20 seconds on my own laptop (Fujitsu), but mine has a Core 2 Duo with 2gb RAM... and Ubuntu is the only OS on it (no WUBI).
Is the startup slowness due to installing it within Windows with WUBI, or is there something else at work here?
If yes, what are the actual trade-offs that come with WUBI compared to installing it on a partition.... with regards to boot time and and responsiveness? (I already know that suspend and hibernate won't work with WUBI)
