Ubuntu 8.04 server installation hangs
Attempting to install Ubuntu 8.04 server to evaluate on a Dell Optiplex GX620, Pentium 4 3.00GHz with EM64T, 1Gb RAM, BIOS is A11.
Have downloaded the 64-bit iso several times, verified the checksum and burned to CD-RW disc.
Boot from CD. The install menu displays for a second, then the language selection screen immediately displays.
Cannot proceed from here. The system is hung. No keyboard input is accepted. The keyboard is the Dell USB keyboard provided with the box. Tried moving this to different USB ports with same result.
Have also tried the i386 version with the same result.
Attempted to download the alternate version, which the documentation or FAQ indicated would have "alternate" in the file name, but the download link started downloading the iso file with the same name/size as the previous version.
Any ideas as to how to solve this would be appreciated.
TIA
Rick
