AMD r7 260/265 Topaz GPU is unsuable. Bug ?

Asked by Guillaume

Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, kernel 4.34. I've been trying to get my discrete graphics card to work for a while... without success. I would like to know whether my issue is a bug

I have a laptop with two gpu:

00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Mullins [Radeon R4/R5 Graphics] (rev 05)
(using the readeon driver)

01:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265] (rev ff)
(using amdgpu driver)

Even on a clean install, on boot, the following message appears:

[drm:amdgpu_sched_run_job [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Error scheduling IBs (-22)
[drm:amd_sched_main [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Failed to run job!

lspci -vv returns (extract):

Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265] (rev ff) (prog-if ff)
DeviceName: AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M260
 !!! Unknown header type 7f
 Kernel driver in use: amdgpu
 Kernel modules: amdgpu

Thanks you in advance for pointing me in the right direction: is it a bug ? Is there any workaround ?

Hi, Thank you for taking time to answer. I had read that article, which is about the old fglrx driver. A driver which cerated the same problem when I used to use 14.04. Thanks anyway.

I anyone comes here this in their quest to get their AMD gpu working :

This website was helpful:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMD-Iceland-Now-Stable

I solved my problem by upgrading to kernel 4.7 and updating the drivers (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers)

Then got to switch between the two GPUs using information on this page:
