gb.archive.ubuntu.com seems out of date

Asked by pierz

When the hole in OpenSSL was announced I attempted to upgrade my system using the gb.archive.ubuntu.com - about 4 days after the announcement this mirror had not been updated. I had to change my mirror to archive.ubuntu.com to get the updates.

It is not clear how/where to check the 'freshness' of the country based mirrors (or how they map to these ones) on your https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors. I realise that some mirrors are not always fully up to date but I was surprised that gb.archive.ubuntu.com was days out of date.

I don't understand how the mirror system works as when I IP lookup these two archive hosts they resolve to the same IP address - I assume there's some form redirect going on..? Maybe this was just a glitch?

Hello

Maybe its just a glitch.. Now the mirrors seem to be up to date (esp oxford university mirror) Just try again after some time using the mirror and in the meanwhile use the main server to download updates..
