Numeric keys don't work after upgrade to 8.02

After upgrading to 8.04 the numeric & operator keys don't work. I tried unplugging & re plugging the keyboard to no avail. I also went into preferences & tried to set it up that way. There was no change. What next?

Some people have experienced problems with the numeric keys after an upgrade to 8.04

Go to System >Preferences > Keyboard, go to the Mouse Keys tab. Simply uncheck the box for Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard.
