Xfburn 0.0.3svn unsuitable for Xubuntu Dapper?

Xfburn says in its burning log that cdburn has issues with linux 2.5 or higher, if I remember right. So why it is included in Xubuntu Dapper? Do you recommend another software? How can I test that everything was burned right?

It looks like xfburn is the native cd burning application for Xfce, but sounds like it is still under development so may have some problems (I see three crash bugs listed in launchpad about it -- report more if you find problems).

If you find xfburn doesn't work well enough, you should be able to use one of the cd burners from one of the other desktop environments, such as k3b, GnomeBaker, or gcombust.

A simple way to test that your burner is working correctly is to simply burn a CD of files, mount the CD on another computer, and go through and check the files are the same. Generally I've found if it works once, it'll work reliably thenceforth.

Thanks. But suppose you have burned an iso image. Is there easy way to check, if it has been burned right?

Yes, just put the CD in the computer, wait until an icon shows up for it on the desktop, and open it. You should see multiple files and directories there if it is burned right. If you see just one file named something.iso, then it was not done right.

If that works okay, then the next test would be to just use the CD. For instance, if it is an iso of the Ubuntu distro, then boot your computer with the CD in the CD ROM. (Note that sometimes you have to go into your BIOS and set it to boot off CDROM before booting off the hard drive.)

Thanks, Ubuntu CDs have integrity check, but I was thinking more general case. I posted another support request for that by subject "How do you compare an iso file and a burned disk?".

has a command-line hack to do that, but most cd-burning GUIs will do it for you. I use k3b, and it has a button to check after the burn. If you don't want to install any KDE applications, you could try another GTK cd-burner like Graveman or something.

The error message about Linux 2.5 is something you should just ignore, the author of the command-line program for CD burning simply doesn't like Linux or ATAPI/IDE.
