Just download the desktop installation cd which offers a live-cd. Boot into it and check if graphics, harddrive access and network connectivity are working. If so, you may want to give it a try.

At the moment, there is no official compatibility database for ubuntu (or any other linux based software distribution). So just give it a try and don't forget to back up your data.
