running in low graphics mode

i am new to linux and am having some problems. Whenever i am running ubuntu, it runs in a low graphics mode, and when i try to move it up to a higher setting, it wont let me. I have just an onboard graphics card that came with my computer. I dont know what to do and its getting annoying when i have to run this setting

Lets see what we can do!
What kind of computer do you have? Model? What type of graphics card? What version of Ubuntu are you running? Did you just install Ubuntu? Could you explain what you've done up to this point?

i haver a dell dimension 2400 with the on board graphics card ... which i have no idea what it is. i am running ubuntu 7.1 and just installed it. I havent done any thing to the O.S. but still wont work .. i tried to change the settings of the monitor in the administration menu and the settings of the graphics card but everything has failed

Burn a CD and try installing using the new version which was just release. Good luck!

updated to the new version n still have the same problem ...
