Copying a page URL to Firefox

When I read an email in TB I find that there are links to web pages. Always before in FF if I clicked on the link the page appeared in Firefox. Now in order to get the page to appear in FF I have to right click on the link and tell it to copy the link location; then I have to go to FF and double click on the icon that is part of the URL display; I then have to do a Ctrl-V to paste the link location in the URL area and hit enter. At that time the page then appears in FF. To call this a pain in the a@@ is putting it mildly. I know it works but why should I all of a sudden and without changing anything from when I had Gutsy Gibbon have to do all of this just to link to a page.

I just want it to work as it has in all my other iterations of FF where I click on the link in TB and it appears in FF. Is that really too much to ask?

No. I am running Gnome, Hardy Heron final Beta Ubuntu with the default Firefox updated and the default TB updated. Not sure which exact version of FF it is as it is whatever was the default as of about 3AM EST 04/23/2008.

What I did was the version upgrade using the basic method to upgrade 7.10 to 8.04 from the Hardy Heron Ubuntu site a follows:

    *

      There are two ways to upgrade:

   1.

      Press Alt-F2 and type update-manager --devel-release
          *

   2.

      Click the Check button to check for new updates.
   3.

      A message will appear informing you of the availability of the new release.

   4.

      Click Upgrade.
   5.

      Follow the on-screen instructions.

Did only this and nothing special other than this except check for updates of which there were as expected none. I assumed that all would work basically as it did for 7.10 and so it does except for this problem.

Check that the package "thunderbird-gnome-support" is installed.
If it isn't, install it.
Also be sure that Firefox is set as your default browser (System=>Preferences=>Prefered Applications).

Thank you. It was the default browser setup. I didn't reset it as I assumed that since it was already the default browser it would still be the default browser. The package thunderbird-gnome-support was already installed but when I went into the preferences and made FF the default browser it immediately worked.

One of the best things about Ubuntu is the ability to get quick and to-the-point responses that work. This was just another example and I for one really appreciate Spike the Dingo for his ability to analyze and solve my problems.
