Cannot even get a disk to boot up at startup!

I read the similar FAQ's that were posted but none seem to help me.
I will now give you the full story on what I have done so far.
- Downloaded latest version from ubuntu.com download page (server edition).
- After saving it which took a long time....
- Burned the ISO file to a TDK CD-R 80 Min 700 MB/MO disk. (with the help of windows xp instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto )
- After wasting 3 or 4 CD's, I tried yet again to insert the disk in and then boot up the computer.

NOTHING WORKED!!! It just booted up normal as Windows XP. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here? It is disappointing to me how little documentations there are out on the internet on ubuntu when it is better than Microsoft's products.

I don't understand the whole ISO file.
Instructions I used to Burn The ISO file:
- Opened InfraRecorder
- Went to the Actions Menu and selected Burn Image...
- Selected ISO file that was saved to C:\
- Clicked OK on the next dialog box as stated in instructions.
- Burned within 20 minutes or so.
- Ejected CD and brought to computer I wanted to switch to Linux
**Then you can start back up at the top with "NOTHING WORKED"

Do you happen to have Nero on your computer to burn CDs? If not tell me what you have? Nero is probably the best.

Hi

When you boot up the computer with the cd you burned in the drive, are you telling the bios to boot from the CD? If not, restart your computer. While your bios boot screen is up, it should say something like press F12 for menu. If you push F12 (or whatever key it says), then it will bring up a menu, where you can select the boot device among other things. Selecting your cd rom will tell the computer to boot off of the cd.

If you already knew this and already have been doing it, my apologies for suggesting it.
