Cannot install Ubuntu 7.10 from disc Several errors such as hdc:errror code 0x70, sense key: 0x03, asc: 0x10, ascq: 0x90,

Pentium D CPU 2.67 GHz, 448 MB ram, Drive C: 232 GB & Drive E: 38.2 GB.
Tried to install several times from disc
Each time I get error messages such as:
hdc: error code 0x70,
sense key: 0x03,
asc: 0x10,
ascq: 0x90,
Buffer IO error on device hdc: logical block 256492 etc, for each line of code until I stop the CD read process and void install process. Then it boots up Windows XP Media version.
Need some direction. When I test disc it indicates some hint of corruption, Can this be true?
