printing to Brother HL5250DN fails after CUPS update

print jobs fail silently for the last day or so.
I'm pretty sure I accepted an updated to cupsys just previous
to these failures.

I wish I could give more diagnostic info, but as I say, the failure is silent.
This ubuntu box acts as if the print job succeeds, but the printer
doesn't do anything.

problem went away; maybe it was a network glitch; who knows.
