skype bluetooth headset

Asked by Andrei Kouznetsov

I have a bluetooth motorola headset, skype, and Ubuntu Gutsy.

I can pair the headset and play music through it using mplayer.
my .asoundrc is
----------------------------------------------
pcm.bluetooth {
   type bluetooth
   device 00:07:A4:40:FE:9C
}
----------------------------------------------

and
$ mplayer -ao alsa:device=bluetooth music.mp3
plays everything fine.

Here is the problem.
When I start skype it takes longer than usual. It looks like skype is doing something to the headset, because the headset makes some sounds. Making a call takes longer: before the call is placed, skype is doing some things to the headset again. Maybe it is a problem of skype, OK.
But sometimes everything freezes and I have to restart the whole system. And this is a real problem.

This is most likely a bug in the pcm sound system on your computer, there have been numerous bugs in Gutsy development related to sound, going asd deep as the kernel (system resource allocation program), please ensure you have all the latest upgrades installed and also go into skype's settings and check the sound settings in there. Hope this is some good info.

Can you help with this problem?
