Xorg broken after update to 15.10

Asked by Gabriel

Hi, I just updated from 15.04 to 15.10 and upon reboot X no longer works. Gdm tried to start it up several times but the screen just blinks. I had a look at the gdm and Xorg logs but there is no error. I tried starting X manually with startx but it does the same thing. I tried uninstalling the nvidia proprietary driver, switching to the nouveau driver and rebooting but no luck. I tried different nvidia driver versions, I tried generating the xorg.conf file usimg the nvidia tool, I rebooted in between each try, etc....still nothing. What I don't getbis why the xorg logs have no errors (EE). Can someone help?

Thanks,
Gabriel

Hi Gabriel!
I already have the same error, but my video card is intel, I did reset the system using the kernel 3.19.0-31-generic, and it works without problems, so, I think It is related with some troubles with the kernel and some specific video cards, I think we should open a bug don't you think?

Mine is actually one of those hybrid Nvidia/Intel cards now that I think
about it. The Nvidia is active only when 3d is used so in reality it is
probably the Intel card driver having issues, I had forgotten that. I wipl
update the bug report with this info. Thanks for the tip!

Interestingly I had a 3.16 kernel set as default, so it seems in my case not to be due to the 4.2 kernel. I tried your version but it does the same.

I updated the bug, I found the culprit: GDM

Can you help with this problem?
