I got Broken files or something like that

Asked by Lynne Stevens

This is what I get back in root terminal says files are broken !

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libwx-perl : Depends: wxperl-gtk2-3-0-1-uni-gcc-3-4
Depends: libalien-wxwidgets-perl (>= 0.65+dfsg~) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I tried to get 2 of the files in Synaptic Package manager and clicked fix Broken Packages and re tried got same results
This is in installing Repetier-Host says it is stable version . . And some one seems can not tell people how to install Slic3r the web site is missing all the ways of installing it . . ONLY has AFTER INSTALL instructions ! . . Can any one help with this one ?

Utopic is EOL and no longer supported in any way. I suggest you upgrade to a supported version for continued support.

Well I would but 15.04 is not ready for prime time . . Been there did that a week ago went back to 14.04 and let it upgrade to 14.10 might go back to 14.04 before going to 15.04 .. It crashed jerked around and lots of things did not work

15.04 is dead in December this year... so not much life left in it, its pretty much as mature as it's going to get

14.04 is rock solid and supported til April 2019. You will also be able to update direct to 16.04 in April next year (LTS to LTS upgrades are supported).

Apart from the fact that Ubuntu 14.10 is not supported any more, you did not correctly execute actionparsnip's commands.

He asked for
apt-cache policy libwx-perl wxperl-gtk2-3-0-1-uni-gcc-3-4 libalien-wxwidgets-perl

but you truncated the command to
apt-cache policy libwx-perl wxperl-gtk2-3-0-1

The output of
apt-cache policy libalien-wxwidgets-perl
and/or
sudo apt-get install libalien-wxwidgets-perl
might have given a clue for a solution even on utopic (or at least more details of the problem)
