Mouse erratic after KVM switching between Windows and Ubuntu PCs

Asked by Bush1234

I have 3 PCs (2 windows XP, 1 windows XP dual boot with Ubuntu 7.10 - first time this week that I've ever used it ) connected to a Belkin 4 port KVM switch, single LCD screen, keyboard & mouse (Belkin optical mouse - USB, but PS/2 through the KVM).

Switching the KVM between any Windows works fine, but when I switch to Ubuntu and move the mouse the pointer goes crazy for about 10-15 seconds (randomly opening anything it touches).
After this random activity it settles down and works 100%.

Under windows I didn't need to load drivers, but I'm guessing this may be necessary.

Any suggestions what might be causing it and how I may get around this problem, and if I have to load drivers - where I might get them from and how do i load them.

Thanks

I've just noticed that if the Screen Saver has kicked in on the Ubuntu PC the mouse isn't erratic when I switch back from a Windows PC.

No - still sometimes erratic even if screensaver was running

I've seen similar problem in a server room using RHEL on IBM servers and they had a work around that consist to switch to console screen (text mode) and then back to Gnome or GDM (graphic mode).

To try it press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<F1> to swith to console, then press <Alt>-<F7> to get back to your desktop.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately it seems to be erratic for a longer period than switching directly.

The workaround that I suggest before worked in our case because it seems to forces the X server to reinitialize the mouse.

Can you help with this problem?
