Verizon Wireless Pantech UML295W support in ubuntu 15.04

Asked by Zero

Referencing bug report #1390769 which was allowed to expire without resolution, I still have the exact same problem. 14.04 upgraded modemmanager to 1.0.0-2 which broke support for the Verizon Wireless Pantech UML295W. Only way to make it work was by regressing to 0.5.2.0-0. We have been through two major upgrades now. 14.10 brought us modemmanager 1.2.0-1 and 15.04 brought us modemmanager 1.4.0-1. None of these "upgrades" have done anything to fix this hardware support regression. There are other odd behaviors I'm starting to see now that I attribute to using such an old modemmanager version with the newer kernels. I cannot upgrade to the current release and still use my wireless modem. PLEASE HELP!

I did find a very lame workaround but it does work. Uninstall modem manager completely! The UML295 is a NDIS USB device and is enabled as an Ethernet connection in Network Manager. Modem manager seems to only make matters worse.

Can you help with this problem?
