MBR Crash

I have a Windows machine which had recent crash. I am sure MBR is corrupted. Can Kubuntube used as a recovery CD. That is I have an idea of booting with live CD and taking files backup on my thumb drive. Will it be possible ? How can it be done otherwise?

Yes you can, i have already used Ubuntu 7.10 live cd as a rescue live cd for damaged Win pc.
I think you can do same thing with Kubuntu 7.10 live cd.
