you need to give abit more information here - which program you trying to install, how you're doing it eg synaptic, add/remove, apt-get, aptitude
if you've just installed - are your repos set ok - system > admin >software sources - ticks in boxes but no tick in cdrom

Vojtěch Trefný suggests this article as an answer to your question:

It is called "Ares" I've never used Ubuntu before so I thought It was like Windows, Just dubble click. but it asks me to choose an application to open it with. I tried the add/remove bit but could not find it and I don't even think that the synopsis bit is even on here.

To install and use Ares a p2p windows software http://
Then you must download the ares install .exe save to your hard-disk and then using wine you can install and you can run it
But i strongly suggest you to use different alternative, there are many, p2p software for Linux.

By the way to install Wine
Using Synaptic please first enable the universe repository:
Launch Synaptic from menu: System-
From Synaptic menu: Settings-
enable "Community Maintained open source software (universe)"
Close Synaptic
Then open a Terminal from the menu Applications-
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install wine
give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.
Then there are a lot of howto on the net:

I put in the "sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install wine" bit so do I just close it? I don't see a save or anything like that.

Well when I put the wine command in it gave a rather large list and showed it installing and all. But now that other command you gave me is not doing anything.

I think you are in trouble writing command line... when you try the:
sudo aptitude install wine
the system must answer you with error or with a request of confirm about installing software...
Please confirm this.
Thank you
