Toshiba Satellite M50D-A/Radeon HD 8330 video not working

Asked by Tomas Van Verrewegen

* After a kernel update a couple of months ago, my video card stopped working.
* Also power management is very buggy now:
- the laptop doesn't suspend after XX minutes anymore, it does when I close the lid but...
- After a fresh reboot the shutdown menu contains: Sleep/Restart/Shutdown, but after a couple of suspends the Sleep options disappears
* My fan is constantly whirring like a jet engine
* watching any video/flash movie as next to impossible, my current workaround (sort of): ""mplayer -vo x11 -vf scale --zoom -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all"", this way a can get a couple of frames per second (for lowres files anyway)

I already posted a bug report for this problem (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1373969), and I know it's probably a bit impolite to do so again, but:
Can anyone please help me with this?

I followed the instructions on: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicsTroubleshootingProcedure

my laptop: Toshiba Satellite M50D-A
ubuntu is installed on the HD
