Hi Pat, and thanks for your question.

At first, Ubuntu (or it's flavours) doesn't see your disks as C: or D:. Ubuntu and other Linuxes see disk drives as files on special /dev/ folder. So your C: drive is probably shown as /dev/hda1 and your D: drive as /dev/hdb2 in installation. If your drives are SCSI, they're /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 .

The installation will ask you to select disk and partition you want Ubuntu to format for its own needs. Please also note that Windows cannot see your Ubuntu home (due to incompatible file system format).
