What did you upgrade from?
What method did you use?

I am not a computer guy, I believe it was upgraded from a previously installed 12.04 version. I just kicked the UPGRADE button from the Ubuntu's pull-down screen at up-right corner and finished the 14.04 LTS upgrade.

Thanks.

Hi guys ! I have the same problem ( I thought I was the only one) . I did system update two months ago. The last changes I made were apt-get autoclean and apt-get autoremove . I saw some kernels uninstalled . So, my laptop started with the problem.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 with upgrade 14.04 LTS and Gallium 0.4 on ATI RS690.
Thank's for your help.Hi guys! I have the same problem (I thought that I was the one). But I did the upgrade two mounths ago. The last change that I did was an apt-get autoclean and antoremove. I saw some kernels were unistalled. When my lap restart started display flickering.

Hi guys!
I have a temporal solution. I looked to the web, many people have the same problem and the kernel version is for now the origin.
With the last system updates I got "3.13.0.36" kernel version by default. So, when the computer is starting in the "Grup" list, you must select other version, I tried with 3.13.0.34 and got solution.

Maybe, you need to know this:

and

Good luck!

Hi vcdep-xp!
Using your method, I have also temporally solved the screen flickering problem.
Thanks!

Another one here with same kernel bug. !4.04 wont work, 14.10 neither. Went back to 12.04 and voila!! Kernel 3.13.0.32 worked for me. So this is a long standing bug going back two "Long Term Releases" you'd think it would be solved or at least addressed. Gonna try mint next see what happens. --Toshiba Satellite AMD, trying and failing with Ubuntu 64 (versions mentioned above)

I had a very similar problem to the one described here in a Toshiba P205D-7802S with a Radeon R690 graphics card and Ubuntu 14.04, and installing kernel 3.18.1 manually stopped the flicker.

I have the same problem with my Toshiba laptop running an ATI card. I weas able to launch the GRUB menu by holding the Shift key at start-up and selected 3.13.0.32 and that fixed the flickering. Thank you guys.

On the advanced options menu on the grub screen choose an older kernel.
