Precise / It seems daemon died - "problème logiciel détecté"
Hi,
Under Precise, this morning, 2d of August 2014, for no reason, suddenly, appeared a box "software problem detected". Trying to launch the process suggesting to update, it goes to "it seems daemon died". The problem box reappears all the time. Update processes are impossible.
Any idea to solve this ?

sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-image-
Will clean up some space for you. No point having 3 kernels installed.

You also have not given the output of the command I gave initially. I asked for the output, not an interpretation.
Thanks

Sorry andrew.
Unfortunatly, I did some additional changes since your first post, as you can see (return of history command):
491 sudo apt-get update
492 lsb_release -a
493 cat /proc/version
494 dpkg -l | grep -Ei "linux-
495 sudo apt-get autoclean
496 sudo apt-get upgrade
497 cat /proc/version
498 dpkg -l | grep -Ei "linux-
499 software-
500 sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-image-
501 software-
502 sudo apt-get update
503 history
So after having launching command update, I also autoclean, and upgrade. I've also tried to change the source package server (choosing "the best one" in the menu of software-
Now I've suppress kernel 3.2.0-41.
I've restart each time, except the last return of source package to the "France" server.
I do not know how to get the history of the results of a command launched in a terminal.
So after having done all of this, here are the *current* returns of the commands you first asked:
§1 - return of : sudo apt-get update

On Ubuntu France Forum (http://
1. update, upgrade, dist-upgrade
2. change the server of sources from "France" to other one.
It is said the problem is a wellknown bug (https:/
An other command is suggested: rm -rf /var/lib/
I've not yet run dist-upgrade command.
The problem is still there.

Having tried the command sudo dist-upgrade in a terminal, and having tried to search for an other source server for packages, nothing has changed: I still have the problem.
A. update-manager is not wroking:
1/ Opening of Update manager
2/ Verifying clicking on verify
3/ retuns the folllowing:
"La tâche ne peut être ni surveillée, ni contrôlée - La connexion au démon a été perdue. C'est probablement parce que le démon a quitté inopinément. Details: It seems that the daemon died."
B. Sometimes a windows appears with the text: "Problème logiciel détecté".
C. In command line, update and upgrade work
Having tried to follow several solving processes, nothing has changed.

Here is how I solved the problem, using knowledge shared by Ubuntu users across forums and knowledge databases.
Assuming that the problem came from a bug in the server source package used, and from a too old version of stable kernel used, the 3 steps of solving are:
1. upgrading the kernel
2. changing source package server
3. updating and upgrading
---
1. upgrading the kernel
1.1 Detect the version number of kernel installed: uname -r
1.2 Compare with latest stable version available: http://
1.3 Read how to install a more recent version of stable kernel: https:/
1.4 Using synaptic method described, select generic, image-generic and header-generic packages of the most recent stable kernel version listed into synaptic
1.5 After having selected the 3 package in synaptic, clic on apply: that let synaptic install the packages in the good order.
1.6 Restart the computer, choosing the latest kernel version in grub
2. changing source package server
2.1 in terminal: software-
2.2 in serveur menu, choose : other ...
2.3 choose: select best server
2.4 when the best server is proposed, chose it and validate
3. updating and upgrading
3.1 in terminal: sudo apt-get update
3.2 in terminal: sudo apt-get upgrade
3.3 in terminal: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
And then, it's done.
The kernel used on my machine, is not the latest stable one.
Thanks
